About Us
Abbeyfield Bristol & Keynsham: Supporting Independence in Later Life
At Abbeyfield Bristol & Keynsham, we believe that later life should be filled with comfort, companionship, and security. Our four houses, located in Hanham, Henleaze, Redland, and Keynsham, offer a welcoming and supportive community for independent older adults.
With a perfect balance of privacy, support, and social interaction, our residents enjoy self-contained apartments, communal spaces, and home-cooked meals—all within a warm, friendly environment.

Who We Are?
As a non-profit organisation, we are dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults by reinvesting every surplus into improving our homes, services, and community engagement.
We are proud to be a member society of Abbeyfield England, a national charity founded in 1956 by Richard Carr-Gomm. His vision was to create safe, secure homes for older adults experiencing loneliness—an ethos that continues to guide us today.
Abbeyfield Bristol & Keynsham has been providing supported housing since 1966, helping older adults live independently while remaining connected to their community. We are honoured to have His Majesty King Charles III as our Royal Patron, supporting our mission to create thriving, inclusive communities.
At the heart of everything that we do is our commitment to creating places where older adults truly feel at home. By prioritising resident satisfaction, staff wellbeing, and meaningful community connections, we foster vibrant, welcoming environments that enrich lives.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know I'll like life at Abbeyfield?
Why not join us for a coffee morning, or for one of our delicious home-cooked meals and chat to our residents who can tell you what life is like in their Abbeyfield house. Many people decide to come for a short trial before deciding to stay permanently, and you’re more than welcome to do this.
How much does living in an Abbeyfield house cost?
Charges vary slightly from house to house and from flat to flat but are significantly lower than many people expect. Prices currently start at around £590 per week, inclusive of food and utility bills. If affordability is an issue, you may be entitled to claim Income Support or Housing Benefit. Your amount of savings can affect your entitlement to benefit. Please also feel free to talk to us about our Bursary should you still need help with fees.
Are meals provided?
Depending on the house you choose, our team members will cook one, or two delicious, nutritious meals every day. Lunch and dinner are enjoyable, sociable occasions, and are eaten in the communal dining areas. In most of the houses, ingredients for breakfast are provided for you to enjoy in your apartment at a time to suit you.
Will I have to look after my own apartment?
Your apartment is your own home. So yes, it’s yours to look after, tidy and clean. However, as part of our service, we clean your en-suite bathroom on a weekly basis and give your flat a regular deep-clean for you. Our friendly on-site teams will also help with any small jobs that need doing such as fixing grab rails, checking appliances or putting up shelves.
Will my room be decorated and furnished?
All rooms are unfurnished but come with a carpet and curtains. This allows you to bring your own choice of furniture and furnishings to help make your apartment feel like home. Some houses also have kitchenettes – perfect for making a cup of tea or hot snacks.
Can couples apply?
Yes! We primarily cater for older people living on their own. However, some couples do live in our houses.
Can I bring my pet?
Unfortunately, larger pets are not allowed although caged animals can often be accommodated.
Will I have a telephone and television?
All rooms have sockets and an aerial point if you wish to install a phone or TV. Some houses have a communal TV in the living room. You should be eligible for a concessionary TV licence for your own TV. If you would like to install a phone line or Internet access, then please note that this cost is additional to your rent.
What happens if I become ill?
Minor illnesses can be managed within our Abbeyfield houses. In many houses, our residents can bring-in paid care services, whose costs are either covered privately, or by Social Services. If you must stay in hospital for any reason, your flat will still, of course, be waiting for you when you come out. Should you require long term, or nursing care, other arrangements may have to be made in consultation with you, your family, and the local health authority.
50% Off your trial month
All new residents are offered a trial month to ensure Abbeyfield is the right fit. Move in before 1st June 2025 to enjoy 50% off your trial month.
