Marketing and Communications Coordinator
24 hours per week

MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

We are seeking a motivated and creative Marketing & Communications Coordinator to join our team and play a key role in developing and implementing our new marketing and communications strategy. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including creating engaging content, managing social media channels, and working with our Houses to bring in more residents.

Abbeyfield Bristol & Keynsham Society is a non profit organisation dedicated to providing safe, secure, and affordable housing for older adults in the West of England. We have four beautiful Houses in and around Bristol with space for over 70 older people to live with us.  We are passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of older people and strive to create a supportive and enriching community.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Chief Executive to deliver our marketing and communications plans, to raise awareness of our charity and its’ services
  • Create compelling content for various channels, including website, social media, and print publications
  • Manage social media channels, including creating and scheduling posts, interacting with followers, and monitoring performance
  • Support with media relations activities, such as press releases and media inquiries
  • Assist with the development and distribution of fundraising materials
  • Maintain and update our website content
  • Coordinate the production of marketing and communications materials
  • Analyse marketing and communications data to measure effectiveness and identify areas for improvement

Qualifications

  • Experience in marketing and communications, ideally within Housing or the Voluntary and Community sector
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong creative flair and ability to develop engaging content
  • Proficiency in social media marketing and content management systems
  • Experience with graphic design software a plus
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills

Terms of Employment

  • Contracted for 24 hours a week, day and hours flexible and to be agreed with the Chief Executive
  • 28 days per annum to include 8 bank holidays, pro rata for those working part-time.

Handyperson
Do you enjoy fixing things and helping people? Are you a jack-of-all-trades with a knack for solving problems? Then being a handyperson might be the perfect job for you!

Handyperson

We are looking for a skilled and reliable handyperson (either an employee or freelance) to help us keep our Keynsham and Redland Houses in order. In this role, you will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks related to maintenance and repair.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform general maintenance and repairs, including carpentry, painting, and general repair
  • Assemble and install furniture, fixtures, and appliances
  • Fix leaky Taps, clogged drains, and other minor plumbing issues
  • Paint walls, ceilings, and trims
  • Install shelves, cabinets, and other fixtures
  • Change light fixtures and troubleshoot minor electrical problems
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and expectations
  • Manage your time effectively and complete tasks on schedule
  • Keep a well-stocked inventory of tools and supplies
  • Work with our Maintenance Manager to coordinate professional tradespeople for bigger or more complex jobs (including electricals)

Qualifications:

  • Experience in general maintenance and repair
  • Strong carpentry, plumbing, electrical (basic), and painting skills
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot problems
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic and a commitment to quality
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license (optional, depending on the company)

CASUAL GENERAL ASSISTANT – HANHAM

Calling to the local Hanham community! We have an exciting opportunity for a casual general assistant to join our friendly and dedicated team at our house on Memorial Road.

General Information

The General Assistant assists the House Manager in an Abbeyfield House and helps to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.   The aims of the Society are:

  • To provide support and companionship for older people
  • To make the house a focal point for the community

Principal Duties

  • To assist with the serving of lunch and clearing up afterwards.
  • To help cook lunch and prepare tea as required.
  • To assist with keeping the day room, dining room and communal areas clean and tidy.
  • To ensure compliance with Health and Safety requirements.
  • Any other duties as required by the House Manager on a day to day or ad-hoc basis, such as some administrative tasks etc.
  • Responsibility for providing and promoting an active programme of activities for residents alongside your Colleagues.
  • To maintain confidentiality and act in the best interests of the Society at all times.
  • In the event of a health crisis, such as COVID-19, you must ensure that you are following procedures for testing and health and safety in accordance with government and Society guidelines.

 Remuneration

£11.44 per hour, payable calendar monthly in arrears on the 28th of the month or the previous working day if the 28th falls at a weekend or Bank Holiday.  Your salary will be subject to the usual statutory deductions, if eligible. All staff salaries are paid through the Banks Automated Clearance System (BACS).

Hours of Work

Shifts available to cover staff sickness and holidays, to be agreed by the House Manager.

Holidays

Holiday pay will be based on 12.07% of your actual casual gross pay.

Personal Specification

  • A caring person who is compassionate and understands the needs of older people.
  • Able to communicate and interact well with a wide range of people in varied situations.
  • Able to read, write and work with numbers to a good standard.
  • Have at least basic IT skills; you’ll sometimes need to use IT systems.
  • A strong and supportive team player.
  • A clear DBS certificate entitling you to work in a regulated environment.

Experience

  • Are experienced in working in a similar role.
  • Are experienced in working within services for older people.
