It was an early start for residents at Kift Lodge in Hanham this morning as we set our alarms to watch a “secret ascent” at 6.30am this morning on Hanham Common, just next to the house.
To avoid large crowds gathering, the organisers of the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta have decided to cancel the usual on-the-ground activities. Instead, they are running a Fiesta Fortnight which will see hundreds of balloons take to the skies in secret locations around the city.
More than 700 places in Bristol were submitted to help organisers pick the locations of where the balloons will take off from. And, we are delighted that a member of our community nominated Hanham common as they felt it would be such a treat for our residents.
Abbeyfield residents Norman, Rosie and Val came onto the Common and the other residents enjoyed the spectacle from from their windows – with a perfect view over the Common.
What a delight it was! Thank you to our nominator, and to BBC Radio Bristol who interviewed some of our residents during the ascent.
