Poppies In Colour

At our house in Redland, residents have been preparing for our Remembrance ceremony on Wednesday 11 November by creating a lovely display of painted poppies.  Here are some facts about poppy colours you may not know:

The WHITE poppy pays tribute to those who died in conflict but emphasises an ultimate commitment to achieving peace and challenging the way we look at war.

The PURPLE poppy is also known as the “Animal poppy” and is a tribute to the sacrifices of animals that lost their lives within the armed forces.

The BLACK poppy is most commonly associated with the commemoration of black, African and Caribbean communities who contribution to the war effort as servicemen and women.
