Thank you for your interest in joining the team here at Abbeyfield Bristol & Keynsham Society. We are delighted you’re interested in working with us, and our wonderful residents. All staff have to be DBS checked and provide relevant references. Please see below for current staff vacancies.

We are recruiting for a General Assistant to join our friendly team in our lovely retirement house in Redland, Bristol. Situated just off Durdham Downs, the Victorian house offers up to 18 residents their own self-contained flat to rent; delicious home-cooked meals; the reassurance of 24 hour team member support; companionship; and a calendar of social activities.

It’s important to know that here in Bristol, Abbeyfield offers something different – a unique alternative for older people who are just starting to struggle living on their own. Most residents are still involved in the community: part of the local church, or choirs; and enjoy daily walks and getting out and about.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, be confident working as part of a team, and enjoy the company of older people. Previous experience an advantage but not essential.

Principal role is to assist the house manager in helping to maintain the house and ensuring the welfare of residents. This includes;-

  • breakfast and lunch duties, laying tables, clearing up and serving meals;
  • organising and serving at the daily coffee morning;
  • collecting menu choices from residents;
  • service washes;
  • engaging with residents and spending time talking and assisting;
  • any other duties as requested by the house manager.

Rate of Pay

The rate of pay is £8.17 per hour, paid calendar monthly in arrears with annual cost of living increases in April. Food is provided whilst on duty.

28 days per annum to include bank holidays; pro rata for those working part-time.

Hours of Work

Monday to Friday 1000 – 1500 hours
